BMI is a population-level screening tool, not a clinical diagnosis. Muscle mass, bone density, and distribution of body fat are not captured by BMI. Consult a qualified healthcare provider for personalised medical advice.
Tools to help you get to — or stay in — a healthy range.
According to the WHO, a healthy BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9. Below 18.5 is underweight, 25-29.9 is overweight, and 30 or above is considered obese.
BMI is calculated by dividing your weight in kilograms by your height in meters squared (kg/m²). In imperial units: BMI = (weight in lbs × 703) ÷ (height in inches²).
BMI is a useful screening tool but has limitations. It does not account for muscle mass, bone density, or fat distribution. Athletes may have a high BMI despite being very fit. Always consult a healthcare provider for a complete health assessment.
Our BMI calculator automatically shows your healthy weight range based on your height. A healthy BMI of 18.5-24.9 corresponds to different weight ranges depending on your height.
The standard BMI scale applies to adults 20 and older. For children and teens, age- and gender-specific BMI percentile charts are used. Our calculator uses the standard adult WHO scale.
